Opportunity
The various governmental agencies at the city, county, state and federal level offer opportunities for servicing a variety of filing and document storage needs. The department of defense alone purchases over 200 billion in goods annually. SEMCO's quality stock and customized products give you a wide selection of filing products and solutions that meet or exceed many governmental agency requirements.
Selling to the Federal Government
Recent changes in Federal Law have moved government agencies toward working with small businesses, small disadvantage businesses, and women-owned businesses. There is also shift towards agencies purchasing commercial end-items and components. These changes provide you with opportunities to sell to and service a variety of city, county, state and federal level government offices. The Department of Defense (DOD) is another important area of the government market.
The three primary central purchasing agencies at the federal level are:
- Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) which purchases millions of different items for the DOD through supply centers.
- General Services Administration (GSA) which contracts for a large volume of goods and services on a worldwide basis for federal civilian agencies, the military, federal courts, and the U.S. Congress.
- Veterans Administration (VA) which operates a nationwide system of hospitals, clinics, regional offices, data processing centers, and national cemeteries which require a broad range of goods and services.
Selling to State Governments
The states actively encourage you to do business with them through their Web sites. Most state Web sites provide the names of purchasing agents and the products they purchase, and lists of the departments, agencies, and commissions including the contacts at each.
Note that you can locate any state Web site by using www."state".gov where "state" is replaced by the state's name.
Selling to Counties and Cities
You can refer to county and city Web sites to learn how they want to do business with you as well as the departments and contact information you need.
Note that county and city Web site addresses are not standardized. You can search for county and city Web sites through search engines.
